Our lab was established to serve as the North Carolina state reference for shellfish diseases. In this role we provide diagnostic services supporting North Carolina’s aquaculture industry and shellfish resources. We work closely with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries to provide rapid health reports and certifications needed for shellfish transfers into and out of the state. We also conduct aquaculture site visits and sampling by request when health risks to livestock or wild populations are observed or suspected.
